Sabrina Valente, MA, MFT, CPT

Sabrina is a Marriage and Family Therapist, having recently completed a CO-AMFTE accredited post-graduate program through the Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Center. She also holds a Faculty Position there, training therapists in Eco-Systemic Structural Family Therapy. She holds a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology from Argosy University and has been working in the mental health field for over 15yrs in a wide variety of settings, including 6 yrs working for crisis intervention.

She spent the last 8 years running a Family-Based Mental Health Services program before transitioning to Outpatient Therapy. She is actively working towards her licensure.

Sabrina’s therapy approach is relational, collaborative, educational, trauma-informed, and systemic. Her training in Marriage and Family Therapy means she sees individuals as part of a larger system including family, friends, and the community around them and works to explore how others impact, influence, and support them.

She sees trauma reactions as adaptative responses, superpowers that kept the individuals safe in the moment, which sometimes morph into a person’s kryptonite, keeping them frozen in time. She works to educate individuals about the impact of trauma and is skilled at helping the entire family system to see behaviors in a new way. She believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship, holding it at the forefront of the sessions, and believes deeply that change comes from this relationship. She takes an attachment-based approach, exploring how childhood patterns of attachment are still impacting relationships in adulthood and strives to make the therapy space a place where secure attachment is built. Sabrina creates a safe space where all parts of a client/family can show up, be nurtured, and grow.

Sabrina is trained in Eco-Systematic Structural Family Therapy, as well as other marriage and family therapy models. She has advanced training in suicide intervention skills. She has experience and enjoys working with individuals, families, couples, and all relationship constellations.  She specializes in Gender, Sexuality, and Relationship Diversity, including working with those who are LGBTQ+, as well as members of the polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous, and kink communities.
