Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) for Children and Families
Looking for an effective way to provide clinical interventions for a child or adolescent with behavioral needs?
Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) provide structured, individualized support for children and adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges.
At Laurel Life, IBHS services are delivered in the environments where children live, learn, and interact every day. By working in the home, school, and community, our team helps children build skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and achieve long-term success.
What Are Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS)?
Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) are designed for children and adolescents up to age 21 who need more consistent and structured behavioral support than traditional outpatient therapy.
IBHS focuses on helping children:
-
Improve emotional regulation
-
Reduce challenging behaviors
-
Build communication and social skills
-
Function more successfully in everyday environments
Services are highly individualized and based on each child’s unique strengths, needs, and goals.
Who IBHS Helps
IBHS supports children and adolescents who may be experiencing:
-
Behavioral challenges at home or school
-
Difficulty managing emotions
-
Aggression, defiance, or withdrawal
-
Social or communication challenges
-
School-related disruptions
Our team works closely with families to develop a plan that promotes stability, growth, and independence.
IBHS Services and Treatment Team
IBHS services are delivered by a collaborative team of trained professionals who work together to support each child’s progress.
Mobile Therapist (MT)
The Mobile Therapist provides individual therapy for the child and may also work with parents, caregivers, or family members. Therapy sessions often take place in the home, school, or community.
Behavior Consultant (BC)
The Behavior Consultant develops and oversees the treatment plan. They monitor progress, adjust interventions as needed, and ensure services are effective and aligned with the child’s goals.
Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)
The Behavioral Health Technician provides one-on-one behavioral support in real-world settings. They help implement the treatment plan and support skill development throughout daily routines.
How IBHS Works
IBHS is designed to provide consistent, hands-on support that leads to meaningful change over time.
Following an initial assessment, the treatment team develops an individualized plan based on the child’s needs. Services are then delivered regularly, with a focus on skill-building, behavior support, and collaboration with caregivers.
Progress is monitored closely, and services are adjusted as the child grows and develops new skills.
Where IBHS Services Take Place
One of the key benefits of IBHS is that services are delivered in natural, real-life environments.
IBHS services may take place:
-
At home
-
In school settings
-
In community environments
This allows children to practice skills where they are most needed, helping create lasting and meaningful change.
How IBHS Makes an Impact
IBHS focuses on building long-term skills that support independence and success.
Through consistent support and collaboration, IBHS helps:
-
Increase positive social behaviors
-
Improve emotional regulation and self-management
-
Reduce the need for out-of-home placements
-
Strengthen caregiver confidence and involvement
Clinicians collect and analyze data throughout treatment to ensure progress is being made and to guide ongoing decisions.
Getting Started with IBHS
Getting started with IBHS involves a referral and assessment process.
This typically includes:
-
A written order from a qualified provider
-
A comprehensive assessment
-
Development of an individualized treatment plan
If you are unsure where to begin, Laurel Life can help guide you through each step.
